On Sept 7th and 8th we hosted a “Love Tennis” weekend at CPTC as part of a nationwide Tennis NZ campaign to promote the fabulous sport of tennis. We opened our doors and welcomed visitors who had the opportunity to meet us, check out our facilities, and of course…..play some tennis!
Despite a worrying forecast the weather turned it on, and we had a great turnout of people of all ages and abilities who came to give the game a go. For some it was a matter of regaining old skills that had gotten a bit rusty, while for others it was the first time that they had held a racquet.
We set up some mini nets for the kids and our awesome President Leo McCormack, coach Junior Fanguna and junior member Mikey Higgins helped the younger players have a hit and learn some basic skills. We had adults hitting on our astro and hard courts and later ran a cardio tennis session, giving people a taste for this fast, fun, fitness-focused game. Throughout the weekend visitors could also witness some coaching and squads in action, and we had some fantastic feedback about how awesome the training groups looked and what a friendly bunch we all are.
We cranked up the BBQ, and kept people refreshed with home-made lemonade, coffee and tea and home baking. Love Tennis provided us with a raft of giveaways including Hell Pizza vouchers. Attendees also had the chance to win one of six trips for two to the 2020 ASB Classic..…finger’s crossed one of our visitors or members will be a lucky winner.
Love Tennis was a wonderful chance to showcase our club and we really enjoyed meeting so many new people. Clearly some definitely fell in love with the game as we have now welcomed several as new members; we hope you enjoy being part of the CPTC family!
